Leila Gosselin’s Remarks for CBA National Council

Good morning, my name isLeila Gosselin and I am from Calgary. I am Past Chair of NSC and a member of the PD committee

It is my privilege to support Janet in her campaign for second Vice President.

I have worked with Janet on CBA committees for 10 years and have watched her leadership style and skills in action.

In addition to serving as Chair of NSC,Janet served two years on the CBA Board of Directors and two years on the Finance committee. Speaking from personal knowledge those two years ofBoard andFinance Committee experienceprovide tremendous operational depth.

Here are the reasons I am voting for Janet:

For more than 25 years Janet has exhibited an untiring commitment to CBA and has a firm understanding of the nature and needs of our organization.

Janet's service on NSC gave her a unique opportunity to see the breadth and depthof CBA'sadvocacywork for both theprofession's and the public's interest.

As Chair of the Professional Development committee Janet has honed her formidable skills as a legal educator.

As President of the IntellectualJanet was the leader and spokesperson for a national, professional association. Janet is ready and able to lead our CBA.

Janet's contributions are always thoughtful and inclusive.

She understands that the CBA needs to be relevant and a go-to resource for all our members.

Leadership qualities that Janet possesses are:

The capacity to create a vision.

A willingness to take responsibility and ensure tasks are completed.

Mental toughness as no one can lead without being critiqued or facing discouragement.

Peer respect which shows character and personality.

Communication and interpersonal skills which create rapport.

Competency: Janet has proven her competency in different leadership roles within and outside the CBA.
